Nothing says "take a load off" quite like a free craft beer at check-in.

And if one of the world's most iconic brewing companies has its way, travelers to San Diego could soon be met with a cold craft beverage at the front desk of their next hotel stay.

Stone Brewing has big plans for a 99-room hotel beside its beloved World Bistro & Gardens in Escondido, California, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

If approved by local officials, the four-story, $26 million hotel will be owned and operated by Untitled Hospitality and developed in partnership with local real estate company McMillin.

While details haven't yet been set in stone (no pun intended), the hotel will represent much more than beer, according to Stone founder Greg Koch.

"It’s an environmental experience, a culinary experience, a cultural experience," Koch told the Union-Tribune. "It’s not really beer themed — you won’t come in and experience flowing rivers of beer or hops motifs all over the place."

Concepts designers are currently exploring with include outdoor showers, in-room growler cabinets, food-anywhere service, and a four-story, light-filled atrium inside the hotel.

A hotel library of beer-related books and magazines is also on the table.

Other highlights could potentially include the Stone gargoyle logo, large boulders on-site, a lobby waterfall and bar, a 10,000-square-foot roof garden next to the pool deck and 10,000 square feet of meeting and event space.

Since it's expected that at least two guests will be staying in the same room at one time, the hotel's guestrooms would be roughly 50 percent larger than the standard hotel room.

While Delaware's Dogfish Head Brewery boasts the 16-room Dogfish Inn, Stone Brewing is venturing into uncharted territory given the magnitude of this project. However if successful, it's likely it could inspire other brewing companies to enter the hotel business.
