Hope Prevails! Amtrak Returning to Clinton Hometown for First Time Since 1969

Hope is getting an Amtrak stop.

Amtrak President and CEO Joseph Boardman made the announcement Tuesday at the southwest Arkansas city's old train station, which is now a museum.

Amtrak is kicking in $145,000 for a new $250,000 passenger platform, and local organizers have lined up funds for the balance.

Passenger train service ended in Hope in 1969. Local officials have been working since 1993 to restore rail service in the boyhood home of former President Bill Clinton.

A start date will be announced later. First up is bidding out the platform construction contract.
