Some fresh pickings from the Political Grapevine:
Miss Manners
Rutgers University's New Brunswick, New Jersey campus kicks off a new program this week called Project Civility. It's a two-year project aimed at exploring politeness and "mannerliness" and to foster respect among the state university's community.
Project leaders are looking to limit disruptive behavior, like texting in class. Kathleen Hull, the faculty member coordinating the effort, jokes the name could be: "Project Civility: You Got a Problem With That?"
Crazy Week
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had an unusual week while in New York for the U.N. General Assembly meeting.
The New York Post reports Ahmadinejad had a secret meeting with Minister Louis Farrakhan and members of the New Black Panthers Party last Tuesday. There are no details of what was said as of yet.
Later in the week, a woman at a hotel bar started screaming at Ahmadinejad and entourage, "You stoned my sister! You're murderers!" The paper also reports Ahmadinejad displayed "a fear of being rubbed out that bordered on paranoia."
Role Model?
Fareed Zakaria recently ended his CNN show by suggesting that Americans who oppose construction of a mosque near Ground Zero could learn a lesson from terrorist group Hezbollah.
Conservative blog Newsbusters reports Zakaria cited Hezbollah as being accepting of diverse religions, including Judaism.
But even a quick check of interesting quotes from Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah produces these doozies: In 1998: "To the murderers of the prophets, the grandsons of apes and pigs,' we say --'Death to Israel.'"
And in 2002, "If we searched the entire world for a person more cowardly, despicable, weak and feeble in psyche, mind, ideology and religion, we would not find anyone like the Jew."
