TOP US GENERAL WARNS OF 'MASS MIGRATION' INTO US IF EBOLA HITS CENTRAL AMERICA
GARY KALTBAUM: The number one function of the government is to protect and defend the country, its border and people. The job isn't getting done. When the head of the southern command says something, somebody better listen.
BEN STEIN: The chance of contracting Ebola is very small, but as more and more people get Ebola and flee and wind up in Central America ...the possibility of disaster in America are endless. I just don't understand why the U.S- a country with an astonishing amount of money- can't spend it to secure the borders. What is stopping us? There is no harm in it. The amount of money we spend on border security is so small. It's a question of allocating money, it's not a trivial matter. If we want to be a nation.. let's have borders.
DAGEN MCDOWELL: Secure the border- yes, but to fight Ebola.. if you want to fight Ebola you have to talk about allocation of resources and focus on West Africa and individuals who even potentially have it, keep them out of the United States.
CHARLIE GASPARINO: This has a long incubation period. It is not outside the range of possibilities that someone can be weaponized with Ebola and come across the border. I said this weeks ago and I still believe it. We need to seal the border, and stop flights from that part of Africa immediately.
ADAM LASHINSKY: What the general said is prudent- it's a doomsday scenario but an important one. Our conversation is trivializing the difficulty of securing the border.
UNIONS PROTESTING NEW GOVERNMENT REGULATIONS TARGETING COAL COMPANIES
BEN STEIN: Natural gas and solar are going to replace coal. There are a lot of people who need those coal jobs. They need those jobs more than they need to vote Democratic, if the Republicans are going to work with coal they will work with Republicans. It could be a good thing for a Republican party, but I have a sinking feeling about the Republicans taking the Senate.
DAGEN MCDOWELL: The best paying jobs in Appalachia- coal. The White House and the administration- they are in the pocket of the environmental movement and they don't care if it costs jobs, they are wind and solar and they really aren't for natural gas because of the fracking that is involved. Look at the keystone pipeline, unions give it a thumbs up... and thumbs down from the administration.
CHARLIE GASPARINO: I wonder though if they are really going to vote against Democrats. If you go to upstate NY, it's very poor- and it remains poor because Democrats won't allow fracking, which will allow thousands of jobs. The union people though still vote Democratic.
GARY KALTBAUM: Let's un-complicate things here. James River Coal -- bankrupt. Patriot Coal -- bankrupt. Stocks like Arch Coal and Walter Energy -- all stock prices down 90 percent much in part because of this administration's over the top regulations through the EPA on this industry that literally shut down these coal plants because they were losing money due to the higher costs. After 6 years, unions are starting to figure out what we already knew: higher taxes, mandates, and regulations kills industries.
ADAM LASHINSKY: Coal is on the way out, regardless of the regulations. We have better sources of energy. Coal is dirty and it's going to decline in the United States. The free market is working here- regulations and legislation is part of our capitalist system.
JENNIFER LAWRENCE CALLS NUDE PHOTO HACKING A 'SEX CRIME'
BEN STEIN: It's a ridiculous idea to call it a sex crime; it's a ridiculous idea to call it a crime of any kind.
DAGEN MCDOWELL: It's a crime. They were stolen, these individuals will be prosecuted. The guy who stole Scarlett Johansson's photos? 10 years in federal prison. They will hunt these people down. The companies are very quick to remove these photos (Twitter). Google has removed... the companies have moved to take them down doing the wrong thing. Don't take naked photos.
CHARLIE GASPARINO: There are two issues: The people who stole the photos... that's a crime. The issue can you put it on a website? If you are going to start censoring, it scares me.
GARY KALTBAUM: Whoever stole the pictures, they should be prosecuted. The World Wide Web is just too big. There is no way of getting rid of all of it.
ADAM LASHINSKY: I agree with Charlie and Gary completely.
