And now some fresh pickings from the Political Grapevine...
Fast Food Fight
Gay rights supporters are in a fast food fight with Chick-fil-A after the president of the company proclaimed it is unapologetically in favor of traditional marriage.
Dan Cathy recently said "guilty as charged," when asked about supporting what he called the biblical definition of the family unit.
That prompted a rebuke from Democratic mayors in both Chicago and Boston who say they will try to block the franchise from opening restaurants in their cities.
Chicago's Rahm Emanuel reasoned -– quote -- "Chick-fil-A values are not Chicago values."
That kind of talk is not playing well in editorial pages across the nation.
The Los Angeles Times wrote -- "Public officials have a responsibility to carry out their ministerial tasks fairly and even-handedly."
The Boston Globe added -– quote -- "A business owner's political or religious beliefs should not be a test for the worthiness of his or her application for a business license."
A Case of the Mondays
The Agriculture Department is suffering from a case of the Mondays apparently.
It encouraged employees to partake in "meatless Mondays" saying it will help the planet -- not eating meat.
Not surprisingly, ranchers and farmers took issue.
The USDA quickly said the pro-vegetarian post was made without proper clearance and it does not endorse "meatless Mondays" now.
On Thin Ice
Finally, NASA says satellite images show what it calls unprecedented ice melt in Greenland.
The left side of your screen is Greenland's ice sheet on July 8th, the right shows the ice melt four days later.
However, scientists say it cannot be attributed to global warming because such melting occurs every 150 years.
One glaciologist adds if events like this continue to happen it would be worrisome.
