Do you have an older iPhone? We hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you may no longer be able to play Pokemon Go after next month.

The Pokemon Go team on Tuesday announced that the game will soon end support for Apple devices that can't upgrade to iOS 11. That includes the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c, and other older iPad models.

"This change is a result of improvements to Pokemon Go that push the application beyond the capabilities of the operating systems on such devices," the team explained.

The news might be a huge bummer for a lot of Pokemon Go players, many of whom are younger and may not have the newest handsets. The change is slated to go into effect on Feb. 28, so either get your Pokémon Go fill before then or beg your parents (or save up yourself) for a smartphone upgrade.

"After that date, Trainers using affected devices may no longer be able to access their Pokemon Go accounts from that device, or use their PokeCoins or other items in their Bags," the team wrote. "They will need to switch to a supported device to continue playing Pokemon Go."

In addition to the iPhone 5 and 5c, this change affects first-, third-, and fourth-generation iPads, plus the iPad 2. If you're unsure which iOS device you own, head to Apple's site for identifying your iPhone or iPad.

The news comes after Pokemon Go late last month was updated to version 0.87.5 for Android and 1.57.5 for iOS. The update brought a new AR+ encounter mode for Trainers on iPhone 6s and newer iPhones running iOS 11, as well as "improved Pokemon Go responsiveness."
