Verdict Reached in Second Gitmo Trial

Published January 13, 2015

Associated Press

A U.S. military jury says it has reached a verdict at the second Guantanamo war crimes trial but the decision will not be announced until next week.

A panelist told the judge Friday that they have completed the second commission trial here. Their deliberations lasted about four hours.

The judge, Air Force Col. Ronald Gregory, said the decision will be announced Monday morning because defendant Ali Hamza al-Bahlul was already back in his maximum-security cell at the prison camp when jurors reached a verdict.

Gregory told al-Bahlul that no announcement would be made without his presence.

Al-Bahlul faces up to life in prison if convicted of conspiracy, supporting terrorism and solicitation to commit murder.
