U.S. Airways Plane With Faulty Landing Gears Lands Safely

Published January 14, 2015

Associated Press

A plane with a faulty landing gear light has landed safely at New York City's Kennedy Airport.

U.S. Airways Express Flight 4042 landed around 8 a.m. Tuesday. There were no injuries.

The flight was operated by Air Wisconsin Airlines Corp. and originated in Norfolk, Va. It was bound for LaGuardia Airport but diverted to Kennedy because of its longer runway.

Air Wisconsin spokeswoman Annette Daly says the crew thought the landing gear had not extended because the light didn't go on.

The pilot did a fly-by, and tower officials confirmed that the landing gear was OK. The plane was then cleared to land.

The flight had 39 passengers and three crew members.
