The Dow Jones Industrial Average hit a session low at 2:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon, falling 411 points to 13,372.61. This is the biggest drop since it plummeted 416 points on Feb. 27, after the Chinese markets had fallen nearly 10 percent.
The Dow is still up nearly 8 percent, however, for the year.
Here are other recent significant drops for comparison (rounded to whole numbers):
• Feb. 27 – down 416 (3.29%) [biggest drop since Sept. 11, 2001]
• March 13 – down 242 (2%)
• June 7 – down 198 (1.5%)
