The Grinch Makes Broadway Debut This Fall

Hide the presents -- the Grinch is coming to the Great White Way.

The musical adaptation of Dr. Seuss' holiday tale "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" will make its Broadway debut this fall at the Hilton Theatre, running from Nov. 8 until Jan. 7, 2007, according to a news release Monday. Previews of the show begin Oct. 25.

The widow of Dr. Seuss, whose real name was Theodor Geisel, will serve as an associate producer of the New York "Grinch" show. Geisel died in 1991.

Published in 1957, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" tells the story of a scruffy, mean-spirited Grinch who steals the holiday -- presents, trees and all -- from a cheerful group of characters called the Whos.

Undeterred by the thievery, the Whos celebrate Christmas anyway, prompting the Grinch to understand the true meaning of the season.

Currently a regional production at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego, the "Grinch" musical is directed by Matt August, whose credits include "Sixteen Wounded" and "Baby Taj." Tony Award-winner Jack O'Brien is the show's production creator and supervisor.
