Tenn. Supreme Court Won't Intervene in Mary Winkler Custody Case

Published January 13, 2015

Associated Press

The Tennessee Supreme Court has denied a request to intervene in a case that will determine whether Mary Winkler regains custody of her three daughters.

The girls have been living with their paternal grandparents since Winkler was arrested in the shooting death of her minister husband at the Selmer parsonage where they lived.

The 33-year-old Winkler was convicted of voluntary manslaughter in April. She was freed in August after spending 12 days in jail and about two months at a mental health facility.

Winkler has tried arguing in juvenile court to get the three girls back, but the paternal grandparents are suing have Winkler's parental rights terminated so they can adopt the children.
