A teenage custodian allegedly stole $300 from a collection box at a New Jersey church, MyCentralJersey.com reported.
Taylor Nichuck, 18, of South Plainfield, was charged with theft and trespassing after police say he was captured on video camera stealing money from a candle box at St. Frances Cabrini School in Piscataway, the Web site reported.
Police said church officials became suspicious this summer when they noticed a "sharp decline" in donations.
"Over time the collection average had diminished and that's how they knew something was up," Piscataway Police Capt. Richard Ivone told MyCentralJersey.com.
Police installed a surveillance camera in the church on Aug. 26 and Nichuck was seen taking money from the candle box three days later, Ivone said.
Ivone told MyCentralJersey.com that Nichuck admitted to stealing from the box on July 4 and Aug. 22.
Nichuck was also charged with criminal trespassing because he worked as a custodian of the school — and not the church.
