South Carolina Boy, 4, Shoots Sister, 2, in Hand, Police Say

Police say a 4-year-old boy accidentally shot his 2-year-old sister in the hand with a gun he found under a couch cushion in their South Carolina home.

Orangeburg police responding to a report of a gunshot victim Thursday morning found the toddler had been hit in the hand.

Police say the gun accidentally went off when the boy handled it.

The children's names have not been released.

Police tell The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg the girl had surgery later Thursday and is in stable condition.

Police recovered a .38-caliber revolver from the home.
