Spain said Tuesday it is prepared to accept detainees from Guantanamo Bay, Reuters reported.
Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos promised during a meeting with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton that Spain would attempt to take transfers on a case by case basis.
"She asked me for help with the solution of this unacceptable tragedy which is the prisoners at Guantanamo," Reuters quotes Moratinos. "I told her that Spain is in principle open to cooperating in receiving some prisoners, as long as the legal conditions are acceptable."
There are currently about 250 prisoners at Guantanamo, and about 520 others have been transferred to other governments or released, Reuters reported.
President Obama has ordered Guantanamo to close, setting a one-year deadline for shutting down the camp.
