Rep. Quinn to Retire at Term's End

Published January 14, 2015

Associated Press

Rep. Jack Quinn (search) said Monday he will not seek re-election to a seventh term, becoming the second Republican from upstate New York to announce plans to leave Congress at the end of the year.

Quinn, 53, cited the rigors of traveling between Buffalo (search) and Washington.

"My family's made incredible sacrifices for me to do this job for 12 years," he said in the surprise announcement.

Quinn said he has no job lined up but did not rule out a future run for governor or the Senate.

"You never say never. If I did I'd still be teaching English," the former teacher said.

Earlier this month, Rep. Amo Houghton (search) announced plans to retire after nine terms.
