Remains Found of Teen Girl Missing Since 1998

Published January 14, 2015

Remains found in Southern Oregon have been identified as those of Stephanie Condon, who was 14 when she vanished in 1998 while baby-sitting her cousin's twins.

Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin said at a Wednesday news conference a Glide-area resident found the remains March 13 as he walked his dog on a logging road.

Hanlin says the state crime lab made the identification through dental records.

He did not disclose a cause of death, nor did he discuss criminal charges. Authorities said early in the investigation they had a suspect.

A massive search and hundreds of clues that poured into the sheriff's office produced no trace of the girl for nearly 11 years.
