Grassy knoll? More like assy knoll.
In her most recent music video, Erykah Badu removes all of her clothes while walking along the path where JFK was shot. It's like strip poker for Oliver Stone.
How daring! How edgy! How flabby.
No surprise: The Washington Post describes the video as a "big, bold artistic statement." And they should know, they employ Howard Kurtz's hair.
But while some see this as daring, I see it as unfair... to me. See, if I did the same thing as Badu, say in Bryant Park, I'd get cuffed. Don't ask me how I know this, I just do. (I didn't even get my tiara back.)
But the video doesn't end there, does it? Didn't see that coming. Well, actually I did.
Now, it's kind of sad how this "artist" makes a national tragedy about herself. Maybe next video, she'll dress up like the World Trade Center. The planes could be Big Macs.
But, it gets worse — with a speech:
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
ERYKAH BADU, MUSICIAN: They play it safe,
Are quick to assassinate what they do not understand.
They move in packs,
Ingesting more and more fear with every act of hate on one another.
They feel most comfortable in groups, less guilt to swallow.
They are us.
This is what we have become
Afraid to respect the individual
A single person within a circumstance can move one to change.
To love ourself; to evolve.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
OK, let's recap:
• They move in packs, ingesting more fear with every act of hate
• They feel most comfortable in groups
• They play it safe, are quick to assassinate what they do not understand
• They are us
Hmm, I wonder what she means?
It's easy: America is full of angry hate groups who want to kill our leader. I mean, why else would she reenact the JFK assassination and end with that finger-wagging speech?
But her dopiness is magnified by the fact that the man who killed JFK was a pathetic commie loner. For her to ignore that, in order to condemn "us" as assassins, makes her worse than offensive: It makes her boring.
Yes, Erykah, you're boring. You're just another conformist playing in an echo chamber, desperate to revive a career by parroting the same crap you'd find in a Daily Kos chat room. Worst of all: the song sucks.
Erykah, you truly put the bad in Badu.
And if you disagree with me, you're probably a racist homophobe who hasn't seen "Precious."
