For someone who has been around for 82 years, Hugh Hefner is in better shape than most men half his age — but it seems all those years of exerting youthful energy behind closed doors is starting to take its toll.
"I have some aches and pains and I have had lower back problems since the '80s," Hefner told Pop Tarts. "Too much time in bed rustling around with friends," he said with a laugh.
But even though Hef has built his Playboy empire on hedonism and heterosexuality, he applauds the recent movement in California that allows gay couples to legally wed.
"I’m thrilled. Playboy has been [a] proponent of free choice, and that includes homosexual freedom as well. We have to change the laws related to all of that," he said.
It is this open mind and freedom of expression that have made Hef one of the most iconic figures in the entertainment industry (and the first recipient of Spike TV guys' choice "Alpha Male" Lifetime Achievement Award for 2008). But Hef had to rebel against strong repression to be the men’s magazine mogul that he is today.
"I've pursued my own personal dreams from the very beginning; I'm a romantic and always have been that way. I dreamed impossible dreams when I was a kid," Hef said. "I was raised in a very typical Midwestern Methodist home with a lot of repression. There weren’t a lot of hugs and kisses in my home, and I charted my own course."
But on the opposite end of hugs and kisses, we couldn’t help but question whether there is any truth to all those rumors that Hef’s three leading ladies bicker much more than what we see in their E! reality show "Girls Next Door."
"Girls will be girls, and there are moments where they will disagree," he admitted. "The amazing thing, quite frankly, is that we're all together after six years."
Heidi and Spencer Turn Smart
Life in the limelight must be tough — especially when you're Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt.
Never ones to miss a photo op, "The Hills" twosome turned up at Frank Ryan’s Bony Pony Ranch Fundraiser in Malibu on Sunday. They didn't stay long, but they managed to pose for pics and apparently proceeded to be smart (well, smart-alecks) on the press line.
Our spy said Montag and Pratt acted like "total divas" and instead of answering questions, they smugly told all reporters to contact Heidi's publicist for answers.
Did someone not tell them that their 15 minutes may not last forever and they might need press pals soon? Especially if Montag is turning into an, er, serious singer.
In an interview to air on "Extra" Tuesday night, the blonde bombshell said she is in the studio and is all about putting together a real album and music.
Montag said she was never actually serious about her recent single "Higher," which was slammed for the Spencer-directed homemade music video that showed Heidi hopping up and down the beach.
Pratt said that they're also planning to launch a massive social networking site to be "bigger than MySpace and bigger than Facebook."
The couple also admitted that the Beckhams are their branding inspiration — although they seemed pretty sure that the "Speidi" name will certainly surpass their British counterparts.
'Sex and the City' Star Says Nude Scenes 'Came Through Really Well'
Pop Tarts recently ran into Jim Marini (yes, Samantha's sexy next-door neighbor in the "Sex and the City" movie) and we couldn't help but ask how he feels about the world seeing him in full-frontal flesh.
"When I saw what I did at the premiere, I was like, 'Oh, my God, wow, it came through really well,'" he said. “It was intense, but it was great. I'm not shy; I am way less shy than before, that's for sure."
But even though his "Sex and the City" role wasn't exactly huge, the impact of just being featured has hit Marini in a huge way.
"Life is 100 percent different now. There's not even a person that's the same from my kids to my wife to my life to my work," he said. "Everything is different for the better. It's just amazing."
Speaking of "SATC," Jason Lewis, who plays Smith, was all smiles while dining with a group of ladies for lunch at Santa Monica’s hip Kosher Vegan Restaurant Real Food Daily on the Friday before last. As he was flanked by females, we’re assuming life must be pretty good for Lewis, too…
Linda Hogan Told Off by 911 Operator
Linda Hogan is claiming that she has an injunction to keep her soon-to-be ex-husband, Hulk Hogan, well away from her, so she decided to take matters into her own hands on May 22 by calling the cops and hunting down Hulk after she reportedly spotted him driving toward her home.
In the 911 call obtained by TMZ, Linda told the operator she was following the man that reportedly "threatened her life" — only to be served a scolding and repeatedly told to "stop following him!"
No charges were filed and police dismissed the claims that Hulk violated the terms of the restraining order as "unfounded."
