Police Now Treating Missing Colorado Teen as a Kidnapping

Published January 13, 2015

Associated Press

An Amber Alert has been canceled, but law enforcement officers across Colorado are still searching for a teenage girl believed to have been taken from Pagosa Springs.

Pagosa Springs police are looking for 15-year-old Kanyon Nicely, saying she may be in a stolen vehicle with 20-year-old Travis Farmer. Due to Farmer's criminal history, authorities are now treating the case as a kidnapping.

It is suspected the two may be traveling to Mexico in a white Dodge Ram 2500 pickup, stolen Monday night from his employer. The extended cab pickup has Precision Asphalt Paving logos on the driver and passenger doors, and a 100-gallon fuel tank in the bed. It has Colorado license plate 534 LZA.

Det. Scott Maxwell says Farmer was last seen leaving his sister's Pagosa Springs home, and that he left a note saying he was afraid to return to prison in a separate case.
