Two F-15 fighter jets escorted a flight bound for Hawaii back to Portland International Airport after a passenger became disruptive, KATU.com reported.
The flight with 231 people aboard left Wednesday morning, but got turned around about 90 minutes later and headed back.
A "Level 1" passenger alert was reported after a passenger on a Hawaiian Airlines flight holding a duffle bag passed a note to the flight attendant to give to the pilot, the station reported.
In a statement, the Transportation Security Administration said the captain made a decision to return the plane to Portland because a suspicious passenger made threatening remarks and refused to store his carry-on bag.
A spokesman for Hawaiian Airlines told Fox News the incident is not related to terrorism.
"This is kind of a routine passenger disturbance on board," said Keoni Wagner, a spokesman for the airlines. "a guy is being taken off the flight, but it's not of any paricular concern."
The passenger is being questioned by police and the TSA.
Fox News Channel's Mike Levine contributed to this repot.
