New York Stock Exchange (NYSE (search)) Chief Executive John Thain (search) said on Friday that the exchange had not decided whether to change its hours but that an 8:30 a.m. EST opening would be a "good guess" if it did.

"We are exploring expanding our hours.... We have not decided what we want to do," he told CNBC television in the Swiss resort of Davos (search).

The NYSE is looking at a change of hours in order to attract European investors. Thain told Reuters on Thursday that it was under consideration among other changes but that nothing specific was decided.

The Big Board currently opens at 9:30 a.m. EST.

Thain was asked by CNBC whether a May 1 date had been agreed and whether 8:30 a.m. EST was the new time.

"That's a little too specific. We haven't agreed either a date or a time, but 8:30 a.m. would be a good guess if I had to pick a time," he said.
