New Jersey Oncologist Suspected as Source of Hepatitis Outbreak Sued by Former Patient

A New Jersey oncologist suspected by state health officials as the source of a hepatitis B outbreak is now being sued by one of his patients.

Roland Jacobsen of Manchester says he contracted the disease after being treated at the Toms River offices of Dr. Parvez Dara. Jacobsen has filed a lawsuit in Ocean County court.

The state warned nearly 3,000 of Dara's patients to get tested earlier this year after five cancer patients tested positive for hepatitis B.

The state has refused to say how many more tested positive after the warnings were sent out, citing the ongoing investigation.

Dara's medical license was suspended in April.

A spokesman for Dara says the doctor will "ultimately be proven innocent."
