Published January 14, 2015

Associated Press

A moderate earthquake stuck Wednesday in the Atlantic Ocean north of Puerto Rico, but there were no immediate reports of damage in the U.S. island territory.

The earthquake had a preliminary magnitude of 4.9, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

It could be felt throughout the island but there were no reports of damage and no tsunami warning was issued, said Jose Daniel Echevarria, a spokesman for the island's emergency management agency.

He said the Puerto Rican seismic network reported it had a 4.6 magnitude.

The epicenter was about 45 miles north of the Puerto Rican capital San Juan at a depth of about 25 miles.
