Laundry System Text Messages Students When Wash Ready

Published January 13, 2015

Associated Press

Dickinson College students who hate hanging around the laundry room waiting for their wash to finish can now wander off and wait for a text message telling them it's done.

With the new eSuds system installed at the college, students can go online to check which machines at any of the laundry rooms on campus are available. They can then use their student identification cards to pay for laundry cycles and sign in to be notified when the loads are finished.

If the laundry room is busy, the system will notify them when a machine becomes available.

Dickinson associate vice president Ken Shultes says the 180 machines will help students be more efficient. And, he says, they will save about 1 million gallons of water per year — and use about 20 percent less electricity and natural gas.
