Kosovo Journalist Arrested for Allegedly Revealing Name of Witness in War Crimes Case

Published January 13, 2015

Associated Press

The Yugoslav war crimes tribunal says a Kosovo journalist has been arrested for revealing the name of a protected witness.

Baton Haxhiu is being charged with contempt of court for allegedly identifying a witness who testified against former Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj.

The court says Haxhiu is scheduled to appear before a judge in The Hague on Wednesday to enter a plea.

His indictment was published Tuesday following his arrest. It says the 42-year-old Haxhiu published the name of a witness whose identity had been ordered withheld for his own protection.

Haradinaj was acquitted of all charges after a trial that judges said was held in an atmosphere where witnesses felt unsafe. Prosecutors have appealed.
