Jessica Simpson Sued by Cosmetics Company

Jessica Simpson (search) was named in a lawsuit by a California cosmetics company that claims it hasn't received all of the $1 million in products it supplied for the "Dessert" beauty line the singer endorses.

In a lawsuit filed Oct. 21 in Los Angeles Superior Court, Cosmojet (search) claims Simpson and Dessert Beauty Inc. failed to pay nearly $200,000 for products it made for the line. Cosmetic retailer Sephora was also named in the suit.

Simpson maintains she was simply a spokeswoman for Dessert and was not involved in Dessert Beauty's day-to-day operation and was not responsible for the company's accounting and billing procedures.

A spokesperson for Simpson told the syndicated television show "Celebrity Justice" that she planned to "take legal action against Cosmojet for involving her in this matter."

Calls left by The Associated Press Friday for Simpson's publicist were not immediately returned.

Simpson was prominently featured on a Web site that sells the beauty line, which offers "deliciously kissable whipped body cream (with candy sprinkles)" and "deliciously kissable belly button fragrance."

Randi Shinder, the president of Dessert Beauty Inc. (search), acknowledged receiving almost $1 million worth of products made by Cosmojet, but said his company refused payment on a portion of the shipment "that did not meet the company's high product standards and specifications."

"Dessert Beauty is committed to its consumers and retailers, and would never undermine the integrity of its products," Shinder said in a statement.
