Israeli Parliament Member Joins Rebellious West Bank Settlers

A member of the Israeli parliament has joined Jewish settlers who are rejecting a court order to get out of a building in the West Bank city of Hebron.

Nissim Zeev of the ultra-Orthodox Jewish Shas Party moved in to the disputed house. He was carrying a red suitcase, and he was greeted warmly by settlers.

On Sunday Israel's Supreme Court ordered the settlers to leave the house within three days. The settlers are refusing. This could lead to a violent confrontation with the Israeli military.

Zeev said Tuesday that he would try to discourage the evacuation by his presence.

Hebron is divided into Israeli and Palestinian-controlled sections. Israeli forces guard about 500 settlers, among the most extreme in the West Bank, in the city's center.
