Iraqi Officials Still Collecting Election Ballots

Published January 14, 2015

Associated Press

An Iraqi electoral commission official says it could take two to three days to count all the ballots cast in the country's provincial elections.

Spokesman Mohammed al-Amjad says not all the ballots have been received at Baghdad's tally center.

He said Monday that four provinces have yet to send their ballot boxes. He did not identify the provinces, saying only that the ballots were expected to arrive by Tuesday.

Al-Amjad also said no complaints of election violations have been made by political parties. They have until Tuesday to file a complaint.

Saturday's elections were for regional governments to promote democracy at the grassroots.
