House Panel Seeks Investment Banks' Enron Records

A congressional panel on Wednesday called on 13 U.S. investment banks and credit-rating firms to turn over records linked to Enron Corp. , the bankrupt former energy trader.

The House of Representatives Energy and Commerce Committee said the request went to Merrill Lynch & Co. (MER), Citigroup Inc. (C), Credit Suisse First Boston , Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (GS), J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. Inc. (JPM), Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. (LEH) and other top firms.

Committee Chairman Rep. Billy Tauzin, a Louisiana Republican, said in a statement the panel ``called on more than a dozen Wall Street investment and credit rating firms to turn over records linked to Enron and its related partnerships.''

The committee has led Congress' probes into the downfall of Enron, formerly the seventh-largest company in America, and its ties to Wall Street.
