Homicide Bomber Kills Campaign Manager in Iraq

Published January 14, 2015

Associated Press

Iraqi officials say a homicide bomber has killed a campaign manager for a Sunni party in the northern city of Mosul.

Ethnic and sectarian tensions have been rising in the volatile city ahead of Jan. 31 provincial elections.

Police officer Col. Safaa Abdul-Razzaq says the attacker detonated his explosives inside the reception area of Hassan al-Luheibi's home after saying he had pressing business to discuss.

The policeman says al-Luheibi was killed and two guards were wounded in Sunday's attack.

Prominent Sunni politician Saleh al-Mutlaq confirmed the killing. He said al-Luheibi was his deputy and was in charge of the campaign for his National Dialogue Front in the northern provinces of Ninevah and Salahuddin.
