Published January 13, 2015

Associated Press

Four children died in a flaming crash when a sport utility vehicle collided nearly head-on with a tractor-trailer in southern Missouri, the state Highway Patrol said.

The SUV crossed into the tractor-trailer's lane late Sunday on a highway about five miles west of Winona, the patrol said. The truck caught fire in the crash and burned, but the driver was able escape, authorities said.

Vahedia Harris, 27, of rural Winona, suffered serious injuries and was flown to a hospital in Springfield, the patrol said.

Four children who had been in the SUV with Harris were killed. They were identified as 7-year-old Obriana, 5-year-old Kristopher and 2-year-old Jennifer Harris of Winona, and 10-year-old Kaitlin Vermillion of Republic.
