Former Head of UCLA Cadaver Program Pleads Guilty to Selling Donated Body Parts

The former chief of UCLA's willed body program has pleaded guilty for his role in selling donated body parts.

The Los Angeles County district attorney's office says Henry Reid entered the plea Friday to conspiracy to commit grand theft, with a special allegation that he damaged or destroyed more than $1 million worth of property.

The 58-year-old Anaheim resident will be sentenced in January to four years and four months in state prison. He also agreed to cooperate in the trial of a co-defendant and to repay up to $1 million to the University of California, Los Angeles, cadaver program. A judge will determine the actual restitution figure.

Prosecutors say that between 1999 and 2004, Reid sold parts of donated bodies to Ernest Nelson, who then resold them to more than 20 medical, drug and research companies.

A call to Reid's attorney seeking comment was not immediately returned Friday.
