Football Game Cancelled When Thieves Steal Wiring for Lights

Published January 13, 2015

Associated Press

A high school football game pitting Scottsdale Horizon against Anthem Boulder Creek had to be canceled because thieves had stolen copper wires feeding the stadium lights

The lights at Anthem's stadium wouldn't come on at game time, and a 90-minute delay was called while officials tried to find out why.

It didn't take long. Minutes later, workers found the copper wires powering the lights were gone.

Both coaches were flabbergasted, saying they had never had to call off a game in more than 20 years on the job.

Boulder Creek athletic director Ryan Ridenour says he's gotten Glendale Deer Valley High School to let the teams use their field for a rescheduled game at 7 tonight.
