Five Arkansas Prison Workers Fired After Two Convicted Murderers Wearing Guard Uniforms Escape

Published January 14, 2015

Associated Press

The Arkansas Department of Correction has fired five employees who were working when two convicted murderers escaped a state prison after donning guard uniforms that were made in the facility.

Department spokeswoman Dina Tyler said Thursday that the fired workers included one captain, one sergeant and three correctional officers.

Tyler says the investigation is ongoing, but officials don't believe that the workers intentionally helped inmates Calvin Adams and Jeffrey Grinder escape the Cummins Unit last month. She says the workers "were not paying close enough attention."

The escaped convicts were captured in New York.
