Drug Charge Dismissed Against Weiland

A felony drug charge filed in 2003 against rocker Scott Weiland (search) was dismissed following the singer's stint in rehab.

A judge dropped the heroin and cocaine possession charge on July 12 after the Velvet Revolver (search) frontman completed a drug program, said Sandi Gibbons, a spokeswoman for the district attorney.

Weiland also was discharged from probation a year early. The 37-year-old singer doesn't face any other outstanding drug charges in California, Gibbons said.

Weiland's decade-long battle with heroin addiction — he once compared the drug to a "womb" — is cited as one reason his former band, Stone Temple Pilots (search), broke up.

He was first arrested for heroin possession in California in 1995. He served five months in jail in 1999 before being arrested again in 2003.

Weiland's arrest in 2003 coincided with the formation of supergroup Velvet Revolver with former Guns N' Roses (search) members Slash and Duff McKagan.

Later that year, Weiland entered a required live-in drug rehab program.

"I don't think anymore about getting high," he said in the April issue of Esquire magazine.
