Company Replaces Teen's Stolen Diabetes Device

Published January 14, 2015

Associated Press

A Connecticut boy has been given a replacement diabetes monitor that had been stolen while he played basketball at a New Britain park.

The $6,000 medical device that's needed for the 17-year-old boy to monitor his blood sugar levels was stolen June 16.

New Britain police say since the theft, they've gotten several calls offering to help the boy replace the monitor, but now the company that makes the device has stepped in.

On Tuesday, Medtronic of Northridge, Calif., offered to replace the diabetes monitor at no cost and his family has accepted the donation.

Police say they still don't know who stole the monitor.
