A man who suffered head injuries after being hit by a train in Boulder also survived an earlier hit-and-run collision that sent him to a hospital.

Police say 46-year-old Robert Evans was walking to a campsite with his bicycle at about 4:45 a.m. Wednesday when he was hit by an empty coal train on a bridge and knocked about 15 feet into the water below.

Evans was taken to a hospital, where he's scheduled for futher tests later Wednesday.

Boulder police spokeswoman Sarah Huntley says Evans told investigators he'd been released from the hospital about 3 a.m. after being struck by a car while riding his bike.

The driver of the car fled the scene.

Police are investigating the hit-and-run, but say Evans may be cited for trespassing on the bridge.
