U.S.-led coalition and Afghan forces clashed with suspected Taliban rebels in southern Afghanistan, killing 10 militants and wounding 15, a regional police chief said Wednesday.

The coalition troops also provided air-support during the late-night fight Tuesday in the district of Musa Qala in southern Helmand province, said Ghulam Nabi Nalakhail, the province's chief of police.

Local people buried the dead Taliban, while militants took some 15 wounded men with them as they retreated, Nalakhail said, citing the accounts of local villagers.

The operation was launched after village elders told authorities that Taliban militants were wandering freely through the area, Nalakhil said.

There were no coalition or Afghan security forces casualties, he said.
