British Band Member Charged With Murder

Published January 14, 2015

Associated Press

Dwayne Vincent (search), a member of the British garage band So Solid Crew, appeared in court charged with murder Friday.

Vincent, 24, who uses the stage name Megaman, was also charged with possession of a firearm with intent to commit an indictable offense at Camberwell Green Magistrates' Court.

Both charges relate to the shooting of Colin Scarlett (search) in south London on Nov. 6. Scarlett died shortly after the shooting.

Vincent, who wore a black leather hat, brown suit and black coat to court, spoke only to confirm his name and address. He was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey criminal court on Dec. 3.

He was not the first member of So Solid Crew (search) — a 30-strong outfit that has won a Brit Award, Britain's equivalent of a Grammy, and picked up two prizes at the Music of Black Origin awards — to appear in court.

Jason Phillips, a singer with the group, was last year sentenced to four years in prison for carrying a loaded gun after he was stopped by undercover police near London's Leicester Square.

Another member of the group, Shane Neil, was cleared of drug and weapons charges in the same incident.
