Published January 13, 2015

Associated Press

A 7-year-old Denver boy who died in May was suffering from dehydration and starvation, and had more than two dozen cuts and bruises on his body, a coroner's report said.

The Denver coroner's office released its report Monday on Chandler Grafner, who went into cardiac arrest and died about 45 minutes after being taken to a hospital May 6.

Authorities said the boy weighed only 34 pounds.

Jon Phillips and Sarah Berry were charged with first-degree murder in the boy's death. Phillips is the father of Chandler's half-brother, and Berry is Phillips' common-law wife.

Phillips was the legal guardian of the deceased child.

Prosecutors said Phillips and Berry locked him in a closet and intentionally starved him.
