Published January 13, 2015

Authorities in east Georgia have launched a search for two inmates who escaped from a prison 120 miles away after a woman said she was kidnapped by one of them.

Franklin County Sheriff Stevie Thomas said a woman called 911 on Monday night saying she had been kidnapped by 54-year-old Johnny Mack Brown in Chattooga County near Hays State Prison and dropped off in east Georgia. Authorities say Brown has family in Franklin County.

Authorities say Brown and 48-year-old Michael A. Tweedel escaped from the prison near Trion on Oct. 13.

Brown is serving a life sentence for armed robbery, hijacking a vehicle and aggravated assault and battery in Clarke County. Tweedel is serving two 10-year sentences for armed robbery in Cobb County.
