Another Blaze Breaks Out as Southern California Communities Bake in High Heat

Published January 14, 2015

Associated Press

A new wildfire has broken out near the inland Southern California community of Banning as high heat bakes the region.

The Riverside County Fire Department says the blaze was reported at 9:35 a.m. Thursday in Mias Canyon north of Banning, about 80 miles east of Los Angeles.

The department says the fire has the potential to grow to several hundred acres.

In Los Angeles County, a fire that has burned 250 square miles in the San Gabriel Mountains since late last month is now 71 percent contained. The latest damage survey shows 82 homes were lost in that fire.
