A 20-year-old who was playing in a charity basketball event to fight heart disease has died after collapsing during the game.

University of Virginia Medical Center spokeswoman Abena Foreman-Trice confirmed the death of Martell Brooks, who collapsed Saturday night.

A cause of death has not yet been announced.

Brooks was playing in the New Legends of Streetball Celebrity Basketball Game to Fight Heart Disease.

The 2007 Charlottesville High School graduate was on a team of locals playing the New Legends of Streetball, a traveling team that plays exhibition games of a flashy, informal style of basketball.

He collapsed while sitting on the bench.

Charlottesville High Athletic Director Rick Lilly says Brooks was a hard worker.
