Young ousts Mannarino in Memphis

Memphis, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - American Donald Young upset eighth seed Adrian Mannarino in first-round action Monday at the Memphis Open tennis event.

Young doused his fellow left-hander Mannarino, of France, 6-3, 7-6 (11-9) at The Racquet Club of Memphis.

Also on Day 1, Croat Ivan Dodig leveled Russian Teymuraz Gabashvili 6-2, 6-2. German Dustin Brown beat Australian Marinko Matosevic 6-4, 6-4, and American Jared Donaldson advanced past Russian Stefan Kozlov 7-5, 6-0.

This week's top seeds are U.S. Open runner-up and two-time defending Memphis champ Kei Nishikori, Kevin Anderson and former Memphis runner-up John Isner, who will meet Dodig in his opening bout.

Nishikori topped 6-foot-10 Croat Ivo Karlovic in last year's final.

The 2015 Memphis champ will earn $106,565.
