Yankees place Whitley on DL

Kansas City, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Yankees have placed pitcher Chase Whitley on the 15-day disabled list with an elbow sprain.

Whitley exited his start on Thursday in the second inning and was pointing to his right forearm as he walked off. An MRI taken Friday in Tampa revealed a strain.

The right-hander is 1-2 with a 4.19 ERA over four starts this season.

The team recalled right-handed reliever Jose Ramirez from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in a corresponding move. He went 0-2 with a 5.40 ERA in eight appearances with the Yankees last season.
