Yankees place Garcia on DL; claim Laffey off waivers

The New York Yankees placed pitcher Freddy day disabled list Friday.

Garcia lands on the DL with a cut on the index finger of his right hand. The move is retroactive to August 8.

The right-hander was scheduled to start last Sunday, but a reported kitchen mishap forced Garcia to sit.

Garcia is 10-7 with a 3.16 earned run average in his first season with the Yankees.

New York also claimed pitcher Aaron Laffey off waivers from the Seattle Mariners.

In 36 relief appearances for the Mariners this season, Laffey went 1-1 with a 4.01 ERA.

The left-hander is 19-22 with a 4.36 ERA in 115 career games (49 starts) with the Indians and Mariners.
