Auckland, New Zealand (SportsNetwork.com) - Caroline Wozniacki opened her latest campaign by posting a 6-3, 6-2 win over Israeli qualifier Julia Glushko on Tuesday in the first round at the ASB Classic.
The top-seeded former world No. 1 and 2014 U.S. Open runner-up won 72 percent of points on her first serve in the 69-minute match at ASB Tennis Centre.
Meanwhile, third-seeded former top-ranked star Venus Williams also cruised in her first match of the year, firing 10 aces in a 6-1, 6-0 thrashing of Slovakian Jana Cepelova. Williams lost to Serbian Ana Ivanovic in last year's Auckland finale.
Czech qualifier Lucie Hradecka rallied to oust fifth-seeded Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova 3-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 and another qualifier, Poland's Urszula Radwanska, beat former French Open champ Francesca Schiavone 6-4, 7-5.
Seventh-seeded American Coco Vandeweghe battled back to beat Italian Roberta Vinci 5-7, 6-2, 6-3, while 2009 Auckland runner-up Elena Vesnina topped France's Kristina Mladenovic 7-6 (7-5), 6-2.
German Julia Goerges, Belgian Kirsten Flipkens and New Zealand's Marina Erakovic rounded out Tuesday's first-round winners.
On Wednesday, Wozniacki will face American wild card Taylor Townsend and Williams will battle Japan's Kurumi Nara in the second round.
