Wizards' Beal has wrist fracture

Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - The Washington Wizards announced Saturday that starting shooting guard Bradley Beal will undergo surgery to repair a fractured left wrist.

Beal, who was injured in the first quarter of Friday's preseason game against Charlotte, underwent an MRI on Saturday that confirmed a non-displaced fracture of the scaphoid bone in his non-shooting wrist.

Early reports indicate that Beal's recovery could take 6-to-8 weeks. The team will announce an official timetable following surgery.

The 21-year-old out of Florida had a breakout year last season, averaging 17.1 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists.

Second-year guard Glen Rice Jr., who won the MVP of the Las Vegas Summer League earlier this summer, is expected to replace Beal in the starting lineup.
