Former UCLA and San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Mike Johnson has accepted an offer to become the new wide receivers coach at Oregon.

Johnson, who has spent the past few years as a high school coach at The King's Academy in Sunnyvale, Calif., was set to join the Michigan staff as an analyst.

The 49-year-old Johnson is expected to replace Jimmie Dougherty (another former Michigan staffer), who left earlier this month to become the passing game coordinator at UCLA. Johnson broke into coaching in the Pac-10 as the wide receivers coach at Oregon State and also has coached receivers with the Atlanta Falcons and the Baltimore Ravens. Johnson is the father of touted 2019 quarterback prospect Michael Johnson Jr.

The news of Johnson's hire at Oregon was first reported by Michigan's WTKA-AM.
