White Sox put versatile Teahen on disabled list

Published November 20, 2014

CHICAGO (Reuters) - The Chicago White Sox placed the versatile Mark Teahen on the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday because of a strained muscle in his side.

Teahen, acquired in a 2009 trade with Kansas City and projected to be the regular third baseman, had fallen into a utility role. He has played third base, first base and outfield this season, batting .226 with one home run and four RBIs.

The White Sox (17-25) purchased the contract of corner infielder Dallas McPherson from Triple-A Charlotte to replace Teahen. McPherson, 30, hit .305 with three homers and 18 RBIs in 31 games for Charlotte.
